About FoWOD & Its Board
Established in 1991, the Friends of the Washington and Old Dominion Trail (or Railroad Regional Park) — FoWOD for short — is a citizen-driven organization dedicated to protecting and improving the W&OD Trail. It was re-established as an advisory body of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority in 1997. The purpose of the FOWOD is to support and enhance the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park (W&OD) as a recreational, environmental and historic resource through volunteer efforts in fundraising, promotion, educational programming and maintenance.
The governing body of the FoWOD normally consists of 15 residents of Northern Virginia who, living in jurisdictions that are located either on or near the W&OD Trail, have a variety of recreational interests in it. The current members of the FoWOD Board are:
